- FSSAI launched Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) wef 1st June 2020 replacing existing Food Licensing and Registration System.Food License Registration certificate is required to run a food product business. You have to register under Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to manufacture, distribute and transport food products. FSSAI is established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. FSSAI Certificate and FSSAI License are same which ensures the quality, purity and other important factors the customers can rely upon.
- There is no difference between FSSAI, FoSCoS and Food License. These are all the same.
- The full form of FSSAI is the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
- Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) is built using latest technology with a vision to have modern on stop pan-India IT platform for food safety regulatory needs, its launched by FSSAI. What is FSSAI?
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a government body established in 2008 to ensure food safety across the country. It’s responsible for licensing and monitoring food safety standards. Any business involved in producing, handling, or selling food products must comply with Food Safety regulations.

Types of Licenses
- Basic Registration: For businesses with an annual turnover below 12 lakhs. Suitable for selling locally or within a district.
- State License: For businesses with turnovers between 12 lakhs and 20 crores. Required for traders operating within a state or across multiple states.
- Central License: For businesses with turnovers above 20 crores or those engaged in e-commerce, import/export, or operating across multiple states with a single office.
